Old Town Toronto - Specialty Shops Old Town Toronto is known by Foodies as the place to go for specialty foods, gourmet food and chef supplies. You can make up gift baskets of gourmet food, or cooking class supplies while food shopping in the historic St. Lawrence Market. Many chefs frequent the unique specialty food shops found in the St. Lawrence Market and Farmers Market. The Farmers’ Market is held Saturdays only starting at 5 AM and is continuously running from 1803. There you will find herbs for healing and flavour, organic meats and vegetables, specialty gourmet appetizers and homemade breads. Honey, mustard and maple syrup, chocolate and flowers provide a welcome sensory overload. Cooking schools are provided by the Market, local catering firms and George Brown College culinary arts school. Chef education and chef training in the area are complemented with kitchen supply businesses and wine tasting at the two wine store locations in Old Town Toronto. Saturday’s also have noontime food tastings in the Kitchen at the St. Lawrence Market. |
